Ear Surgery

Otoplasty or Ear Pinning Surgery:

Protuberant ears are noticeable at a young age and can be the source of bullying and insecurity in children and can extend into adulthood. Surgery is an easy, long lasting, solution to correct this protuberance. The ears reach approximately 80% of their full size by the age of five.

Can children receive ear pinning surgery?

Surgery is ideally performed before children are old enough to be bullied. Depending on the age and maturity of the child, sedation is recommended for the procedure. Adults can have the procedure awake.

What is the procedure and recovery time for ear pinning surgery?

Incisions are hidden behind the ears and typically heal very well. From there, the ear is reshaped using sutures to the cartilage. Sutures are removed at one week and light exercise can usually resume at that point.

What is Earlobe Repair?

Stretched or torn earlobes can be repaired under local anesthesia in the office. With the ear comfortable and numb, the lobe is repaired with sutures.

What is the recovery time for earlobe repair?

Sutures stay in place for one week, and then are removed at the next office visit. Re-piercing of the ear lobe can be done as early as three weeks after the repair, ideally at an adjacent site to prevent stretching or tearing in the same location.
