Botox / Dysport / Jeaveux / Neuromodulators
Botox, Dysport and Jeavuex are all brand names for “neuromodulators”. These medications are injected strategically into areas of the face to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Muscles of the face are constantly moving. While expressing emotion is great, certain repeated movements can create resting wrinkles in places we don’t want.
Furrowing of the eyebrows for example, is generally interpreted as anger. Inadvertent over expression using those muscles can make people appear unapproachable. Forehead creases at rest can suggest age or stress. Wrinkles around the eyes, “crows feet”, are less aggressive and may not bother everyone. The goal is to soften the movements of the muscles, gently relaxing them. Careful and properly placed injections should not look weird or frozen. The key is tasteful use of product.
How long does botox last?
The effects will take full effect in about a week and typically last three months. Touch ups can be performed for up to two weeks after the injection and are included in the treatment. You should wait about three months before repeat injections to avoid possible tolerance to the medicine.
What is the difference between the brands of injectables?
In general, the different products do work the same. Minor differences include how much the product spread, the strength, and the cost. Savvy injectors understand the nuances to these injections and may have specific personal preferences.
Procedure and Downtime:
The actual injection of botox or other neuromodulators takes only a few minutes. I use the smallest needles possible to minimize discomfort. Some redness of the injection site may be present for a few minutes afterward.
